Chapter TWENTY
(TIMOTHY)
"Yo," I answered the phone and definitely didn’t recognize the number.
"Phantom?" some woman asked.
"Yeah, who dis?" I said, trying to deepen my voice a little.
"It's Keema. You emailed me some of your lyrics the other day. Remember?"
I sat straight up in bed. Oh my God! My dick jumped as the image of her face and body swam back into my mind.
"Oh, yeah," I tried to say calmly. "What's going on, Ms. Keema?"
"You're what's goin’ on. I need you in the studio tomorrow morning. Can you make it?"
"Are . . . are-are-are you serious?" I asked, stuttering.
"I'm dead serious. Big time producer Trini-V wants to meet you." I had to be dreaming.
"You mean, thee Trini? As in world famous Trini? Oh my God! Hell yeah I can make it!" I said, trying not to sound like a damn male groupie. But I was probably too late. I was more excited than I had ever been in my entire life. This was a miracle.
"So, Phantom, this is important. Can you perform the songs for him?”
"Yes! Hell yeah I can!" I know she didn't know how much I could sing. I always thought singing made you soft, and I wasn't with all that soft R&B shit. I never really sang hard for anybody in my life. What I sent her was just a smidgen of what I could do. But I'd make an exception for Trini, no doubt.
"Wait, but I have one problem, Ms. Keema."
"What's that?"
"How will I get there?"
She laughed. "Don't worry about that. I'll have someone pick you up in the morning," she said.
"Okay, but what about school? My peoples are not going to go for that. I missed a few days already over something else."
"It's just one day. Is someone there, your mom, dad, or some adult I can talk to?"
"My aunt. But she is probably going to say no."
"Where is she now?" she asked.
"Downstairs, in the kitchen."
"Let me talk to her. What's her name?"
"Tina. Hold on," I said as I flew down the stairs screaming. "Aunt Tina! Auntie, it's somebody on the phone for you." I put the phone on speaker so I could throw my two cents in if I had to.
"Hello, ma'am. How are you?" Keema said.
"Who is this?" Aunt Tina said, screwing up her face.
"My name is Keema, and I'm the owner of Club Z. The other night your nephew let me hear some of his music, and I have some really good producers that want to meet with him. We'd like to send a car over to pick him up so he could meet with them."
"And when is this supposed to be?"
"Actually, today and also tomorrow."
"And who is he supposed to be meeting with exactly."
"Well, for starters, Diddy today and tomorrow, Trini and Jermaine Dupree."
I almost passed out when I heard her naming those people. Is she bullshitting? My heart was palpitating.
"Is this for real? And where will he be staying?" my aunt asked.
"Yes, this is for real, and he will be staying with me.
